King Charles III visits Tottenham Hotspur as Daniel Levy prepares for less-than-royal reception
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium welcomed royalty this week, but chairman Levy shouldn't expect another red carpet reception when he returns to Spurs at the weekend
On Wednesday morning, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy showed King Charles III around his own crowning glory - the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Once The King had greeted the crowd on Tottenham High Road outside the huge ground, there was Levy waiting inside the West Stand main reception to welcome him inside the building that has been his own greatest source of pride from almost a quarter of a decade at the helm of Spurs.
Levy is more used to Ledley King than the actual King - one good in the air, the other previously the heir.
Yet here was the chairman taking the reigning monarch to meet the men and women's first team captains Son Heung-min and Bethany England before they all walked down the tunnel and out onto the pitch.
Around 2,000 people sat in seats above, most of them local school children who had benefited from the club’s community work in some way. They waved flags and cheered as King Charles emerged out into the arena to meet NFL stars and pundits and take part in various activities.
Levy hung back slightly in the tunnel amid the procession as everyone walked out, to ensure he was not among the first few people to emerge with the sovereign. This is not really the time for him to be front and centre of such events, despite how proud he likely was.
For the 63-year-old will know that Sunday's match against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will bring a very different atmosphere for him.
