Two Tottenham stars could define lucrative pre-season tour
The popularity of two key names may go a long way to deciding valuable summer getaway plans
It is still seven months away, but thoughts behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur have already long been turned to Ange Postecoglou's first planned pre-season tour this summer.
Last year the Australian arrived with a tour already planned and agreed for his predecessor Antonio Conte. You can imagine his surprise when he walked through the door and asked where they were heading, only to be told 'Australia mate'. Such was the coincidence of Spurs heading Down Under to Perth after appointing an Australian manager that some questioned whether they had simply appointed him to make a success of the tour.
That is of course daft: A) You don't pin your hopes on someone salvaging your club because they're from the country you're going to for a week; B) Spurs had a big following in Australia already and were looking to tap into that; C) Everything since has proved exactly why Postecoglou was appointed.
So Spurs made their way to Perth, then on to Bangkok and finally Singapore. The club suddenly had to deal with hugely increased demand at the first location in media access and coverage from the Australian organisations delighted to see one of their big sporting figures now a Premier League manager. Yet Postecoglou was far easier to plan around for Tottenham…
