Johan Lange approach guarantees Spurs will produce some transfer shocks
Spurs' technical director's methods are in direct contrast to predecessor Fabio Paratici
The Johan Lange approach and Tottenham fans' social media transfer frustrations do not make for happy bedfellows, especially with the frenzy of media reports during the window.
For when the summer window opens - and to a lesser degree the winter one - nonsense reaches fever pitch. In the past there used to be only newspapers and people would find out about signings when they were made.
Then the number and types of newspapers expanded and that led to an increase in pre-transfer reports and stories earlier in the process. You might even remember things like Clubcall which was advertised on Teletext (remember that), which upped the amount of rumours to get people paying for those phone calls.
Then came the internet but it was with social media that all hell truly broke loose. Suddenly information from all over the world started pouring in about transfers with very little editorial control. Approximately 5% of what was coming out had any basis in reality.
Add to that the rumours, gossip and ITK (in the know for those who don't know) from someone in a WhatsApp group or Twitter who knew the husband of the cousin of the tea lady who once served Daniel Levy at a cafe in Enfield so had all of the latest hot transfer goss.
On countless occasions, this reporter has had people send him messages on various platforms claiming "I know someone inside the club and they've told me this" only to fire over the same cut and pasted message that another 30 people sent me in the previous half an hour. If you mention that then mysteriously the conversation goes quiet.
That's not to suggest that the media are much better. With the internet allowing us to read stories from anywhere in the world, agents and people around players or clubs have taken full advantage by pushing out information that helps them or their clients regardless of their foundations in fact.
